I want to tell you a personal story about Hurricane Katrina. Jeffery
Simmons, a long time Hypothermia reader, sent me an e-mail with these
pictures:

I think the before and after of my living room say it all. Didn't even include a pic of my newly built/just destroyed pc. It's just a thing that can be replaced. I'd give away the few belongings we have left to have Badger back. He's had health problems since he was born. He grew out of a chest deformity he had when we adopted him from the vet in 2003, but it left him with diminished lung capacity. He almost died of pneumonia earlier this year while I was TDY. He was at the vet's two weeks and in oxygen for three days and barely survived. It was worth the money for the three months it gave us before he died in my arms on 30
August, there were no vets to take him to. Didn't imagine we'd get 7 feet of saltwater being over 120 miles from the
eye wall, 2 miles inland, at 12 feet elevation. The water had just peaked, and the winds just picked up to cat 3 gusts in the during pic. Took them from the hole where the vent fan used to be before I beat it out to have an escape route as I didn't know where the water would stop rising at the time.
Now that you
have read the story, the obvious assumption would be that Jeffery would
be a recipient of the Katrina donation drive...he lost everything...even
his beloved dog Badger. But Jeffery was a CONTRIBUTOR to the donation
drive even though he was a victim of the hurricane, he lost everything,
he still did what he could to help his fellow man. I am extremely proud
to know that I share the planet with people like Jeffery. I know there
are a lot of you who get upset about ungrateful "entertainers"
using the disaster to take political pot shots, but for every 1 of them,
there is a Jeffery Simmons to keep the world in balance.

I've had a few people ask me about prizes..."when will they receive
them...what did they win...etc." All the prize winners names
and information have been forwarded to the companies who are providing
the prizes. I personally do not mail the prizes out so I do not know
when you will get them, some companies might be faster than others at
getting the items shipped out etc. etc. but everyone who has been
contacted by me will receive their prize, I guarantee it. So relax, your
prize is on the way, it just takes a little time to coordinate all the
prizes with all the winners through all the companies.

If you are a car buff, pick up this months edition of Car
Craft Magazine and check out my car on page 14. Having your
car in a national magazine sure is a lot better than the "Steve
Lynch died..." story below.

Freaky:
-Steve
I forgot to tell you guys about this one. The other day, out of the
blue, I start getting phone calls and flowers all day mixed with frantic
family members freaking out because the local newspaper is running a
headline that says:
Steven
Lynch died of Hypothermia
Not only is that freaky, it
is somewhat funny (Get it? Steve
Lynch dies of Hypothermia...my website is Hypothermia...)
but if anyone had read further than the headline they would realize I am
not 54, and I'm not from Cody, Wyoming. Still, that is a bad way to
start your week.

I normally never talk about politics, but I find it disgusting that
politicians have the time to call a press conference (while
people are dying) to criticize
the President and people that are helping but they can't find time to help victims
of the disaster themselves. Take a looong look at the scumbag
politicians you see
on TV and ask yourself...what has THAT
person done to HELP the children without food,
shelter...many who have lost everything, even their family. It
breaks my heart that a 6
year old boy had to lead 6 other babies to safety
while politicians continue to
do nothing but complain.

DONATION
DRIVE IS NOW OPEN!!!
Donation
Drive Early Bird: -Steve
We will officially open the next donation drive on
Friday Sept. 2nd. I
know some of you can't wait until then (for
various reasons) so feel free to
make a $5 donation and win a SFF computer, 6800GT or Limited
Edition Penny Arcade CTS Cel for your efforts. There is no real benefit to "getting in
early" because the number of entries is set at 1000, this just
insures your entry makes it in before I close the drive.
