Today's Random Thought

Whose CRUEL idea was it for the word "LISP" to have an "S" in it??

I have an extremely busy week ahead, but I am hoping to get some of that Gameboy Advance giveaway goodness going this week. I had thought of doing something like this after I did the Nintendo Game Cube giveaway last year but then I forgot about it. It is only after a bunch of Penny Arcade forum members reminded me that I decided to get off my butt and get the GBA Contest together. Look for that this week.

Every once in a while, I like to scroll back through the Hypothermia archives and look at some of the hilarious stuff that has transpired over the years. Four years ago this month we interviewed Gearbox Software, we gave away a bunch of 3DFX stuff, we had a KingPin contest (
remember that game?), I did my second Killer Gaming Rig giveaway and I had Jason Hall's, the CEO of Warner Bros gaming division, then girlfriend over for a handful of *ahem* pictures. Where does the time go?

Our local BestBuy has come up with five $100.00 gift certificates for another weekly contest. I will open this contest today and run it through next week to give everyone a chance to win a free hundred bucks to spend at your local BestBuy. Gift certificates are good at any Best Buy location.  Get in it to win it, you can enter once a day.

New Contest:  -Steve
One of my pals, hooked us up with 14 copies of Ninja Gaiden for our current giveaway. I will be handing out 2 copies a day until next Friday. If you want a copy of this kick ass X-box game, make sure you drop your name in the hat for your chance to win. You'll have to forgive the bad picture, I am not at home where I can take better pictures, I'll put a better picture up later.

I had planned on doing a GBA SP contest today but I am still waiting on the GameBoy Advance stuff to come in from Lik-Sang so that contest will be next week.

I am wrapping up the 9600 All-In-Wonder contest now, I am severely backlogged, but I should have notifications sent out tonight. Keep your eyes peeled on your inbox.

Update:  -Steve
Let me apologize for not updating the site. I have been stuck in “geek hell” for the last four days, no internet connection, no cable TV and no phone. Someone ran their car into a cable/phone box and took out all the cable and phone service in my area ( 200+ homes ) and it has taken them forever to replace the pole and box. I am getting caught up on mail and the news as we speak so be nice. If you e-mailed me something over the last few days and it was important, please re-send it so I can get back to you.

Has everyone heard of St. Baldrick's charity where people shave their heads for children with cancer? The way it goes is this, people pay money to see me shave my head and post pictures of it, and the money goes to help kids with cancer. I know we just did a recent benefit so the support for this event just might not be there, but if there are a few of you willing to sponsor me, I will gladly do this and donate the money in the name of Hypothermia & HardOCP and post the before and after pictures here and on HardOCP for your guys to laugh at. Shoot me an e-mail if you think I should do this, even with such short notice steve@hypothermia.us or steve@hardocp.com.

My search for comics has went phenomenally well, matter o' fact, too well...I can't keep up with the sheer amount of people responding with comic book offers. I am still looking for miscellaneous books to fill in the ones I am missing (
or damaged ) between #1 and #370. If you have comics and you are interested in getting rid of them, let me know. I may take a day or two to get back to you, but I will get back to you.

New Giveaway:  -Steve
I have (
finally) wrapped up the 2.8GHz P4 giveaway and all prizes have been claimed, which opens the door for the latest and greatest "One A Day" giveaway. This time around I have a handful of Radeon 9600 All-In-Wonder cards to hand out. Not only do the fine folks at ATi make the best TV - ViVo cards out there, the 9600 gives you good gaming performance and dual monitor support! Get your name in the hat to win:

Here is an update to my search for X-Men comics. I already have X-men #1 - #92 complete. I just made a deal with a great guy in Ontario Canada for most of the ones from #113 - #370. All I need now is to fill in holes here and there to have them all. If you have any X-men, let me know...I am interested in picking them up. I need "bronze age" X-men comics like this one but I don't want to be stuck doing 10,000 lame eBay auctions either. Let me know what you got, or where I can find them for sale: steve@hardocp.com or steve@hypothermia.us.

Hypo Gathering:  -Steve
We planned a Hypothermia gathering for the beginning of June this year with a handful of readers that was to be held here locally. We have done this before, last time we had 220 people attend and it was a lot of fun. This time I have over 350+ people wanting to attend, so we will need to re-plan the event and find enough space for all of us. Honestly, I wish it was a matter of 10 - 15 people hanging out at a restaurant or bar, but we are waaaay past that stage. There simply isn't many places to get 350+ people together all at one time to hang out. If you think 350+ is a lot of people, at least it hasn't gotten as big as our [H]ardware workshops that drew a crowd of over 750 people (
see picture ):

I just want to apologize to the people who have e-mailed me in the last two weeks. Most of you know that even though I get hundreds and hundreds of mail a day, I respond to everyone. Well, on top of work and home, the death of Freddy, the whole thing with Infinium Labs, the latest contest and this raffle for Brian's family, I have let my e-mail get the best of me and some went unanswered. You know I love you guys, so if you didn't get a response...resend it, I will get back to you for sure.

Advice On Comics:  -Steve
I know a lot of you out there have got to be comic book buffs so maybe you'll have some advice. I contacted a place called X-World Comics a year or so ago to buy the Uncanny X-men issues #100 - #143 in VG - F condition. I made a deal with a friend to give him a computer worth twice the value of the comics and he would buy the comics. I can't remember why, but the deal never went through. If any of you have these comics or can get them, let me know. If you have a friend in the comic business, see if he is interested in a deal or will sell me these comics. I will consider all offers and trades (
computer stuff for the comics, etc. ) just let me know. Shoot me a line steve@hardocp.com or steve@hypothermia.us . Thanks!
