Contest is almost done, one day left, but that reminds me...I got an e-mail the other day asking about why we don't post full names of winners and such anymore, and it always falls back to the fact that people don't like their names splashed all over the internet. Every so often we get a winner or two that doesn't mind sending in pictures of them with their prize, but for the most part, people like their privacy. As long as people are happy, I'm happy....

We have just a few days left of the 2.4GHz Celeron giveaway, so make sure you get your entries in. The contest will last through the weekend giving you guys something to do. Drop your name in the hat and see if you can win a free processor.

Cool Stuff -Steve
Freaky to think that when you log on to Hypothermia or HardOCP you could be cruising the site at the same time as Asia Carrera. Mmmm, that is a nice thought actually, isn't it.
Wouldn't that be hella cool as one of those MSN "My Butterfly" commercials?  Instead of logging on and "surfing the same sites with your friends..." you can just log on here and surf with Asia.

You guys seem to have a pretty big interest in my small form factor black box, I get a ton of questions on it every day, and the most common is how I keep it cool when running at 3.15GHz with a Radeon 9700 Pro cramped into a tiny box. When I took the unit apart and painted it black, I noticed that the thick plastic panels were held on by screws...which gave me this idea:

The holes were already threaded , so I went out and got me $5 worth of black nuts and bolts and whipped up this mod in about a half hour. Looks slick as hell, especially with the black paint. I am looking for a decent prices cube like this to paint and mod in HardOCP colors.

Thanks to everyone for their feedback on Alexa. Most people are mixed about the service, spyware being the largest complaint. The funny part is, in 8 days, my ranking for Hypothermia ( Gamers Hardware ) is 170,000 ( down from 750,000th a week ago ), Hypothermia ( .US ) is 140,000 and StevenLynch ( .NET ) is 1,780,000th.... all for the same site. Pretty funny stuff. The fact of the matter is, you can be the biggest site in to world but if no one uses Alexa Toolbar, their "site tracking" feature means little.  Oh well, go write a review of my site here, I'm interested to see what you guys think.

I learned from the last time we had a contest for processors that you guys would rather have the chance to win ten 2.4GHz Celerons than you would two 3.06GHz processors. So I took note and decided to get ten 2.4GHz Celeron processor for my current contest instead of a couple high-end CPUs. These 2.4GHz Celerons would go really good in your back up box or LAN rig. Since we have ten, this contest will go for ten days with a winner being selected each day... So what are you waiting for...get in it to win it.

Asia's Computer -Steve
Asia recently moved into a new house, and trusted the moving to "professional" movers. Unfortunately, Asia's clear PC we gave her for her birthday a couple years ago was seriously mangled. OUCH. How bad was it?? Take a look...that thing is thrashed. We'll fix her up good as new, but it still sucks when your favorite PC gets smashed.

The funny part is? I was talking to Asia about the broken case and how bad it was, and what was her reaction? She was going to spend most of the night going through the components and individually test them to see if they still work....heh, now we know how the Goddess of Geek spends her Saturday nights.

More cool stuff on the way...be ready. I have a handful of socket 478 Celeron CPUs to hand out this week, all 2.0GHz 400MHz FSB models, something to make a decent back up box out of for sure. I might scavenge up a few mainboards to go with them, who knows. Keep checking back here for the contest to open.

How many people use the Alexa Tool Bar?  I never did until recently.  Apparently not only does it have a search feature ( powered by the one and only Google ) but it also has a website ranking feature.  A while back, a guy e-mailed me to say "How come the number one search result for Hypothermia on Google turns up your site...but your site is ranked 750,000th".... naturally, I had no idea what he meant.  Apparently you can have million of hits a month, but if no one using the Alexa tool bar visits your site...your ranking will blow. LOL!!!  I installed the toolbar, and within one week my ranking is now like 195,000th.

HTPC Stuff -Steve
We stumbled across a guy today that modifies the internal RGB out on the Radeon 9700Pro essentially giving you HDTV output for your video card instead of just plain old S-Video or Composite. I already have a pretty ass kicking HTPC ( Home Theater PC ) and I am contemplating one of these cards...but I am kinda on the fence.

I have an Xbox, GameCube and the HTPC hooked up to the big screen right now, and the whole thing works / looks great. So I am still wondering if it would be worth the extra cost. Feel free to drop me a line with your thoughts.

Just a mere 4 days left to get your copy of Enter the Matrix, so get in it to win it and let's get these things given away so we can move on to another contest. I have a handful of really good stuff up my sleeve for you guys so stay tuned.

Magazine Rant II -Steve
Heh, I love you guys....and apparently I have struck a chord with a lot of people out there. My mailbox was packed with an extra 238 e-mail from people who are also upset about the way print magazines are going down the tubes. I had at least 65 people point out how extremely unreliable and bad information is from "official" magazines. This is pretty obvious when you are half way through the game Brute Force...and the "official" Xbox magazine predicts it won't be released for another month. Half the letters complained about assed up reviews that give you a rating of 9 out of 10 after saying only 50 words about the game only to have the game suck. A large number of people complained about the staff or editor throwing pictures of themselves into every single issue for no apparent reason other than to feed their monster egos.

My advice to everyone is this....when you lay down your hard earned money for a product that you feel is a steaming pile, you either quit buying that product, or you personally contact the CEO / President and give them your thoughts. You never know, something might get done about the problem if  the CEO of Official Xbox Magazine ( or whatever company we may be speaking of ) got the same 238 e-mail I just got. The corporate contact information is always located within the first few pages of a magazine too. Think about it.

If you have an Xbox, and you get the chance, you really do have to pick up a copy of Brute Force. After a few delays, the game finally shipped and is easily one of the most impressive games ever. Graphics are great, game play is a blast and the multiplayer aspect is not only unique but innovative as well. Great stuff on a nice 53" HDTV.

This is an actual in game shot ( notice the crosshair on the neck ). I grabbed this shot by playing Flint and zooming in on my partner Tex while playing. The modeling and skinning are top notch. Another cool feature is the ability to play co-op up to 4 players on either one Xbox or via system link. Schweet.
