Trillion the QGirlz WebMistress

Before and After

1.) How'd you get started in the WebMastering Game and/or who was your inspiration.

As I was fumbling through college trying to find a major that spoke to me, I spent a little time managing a student publication. Somehow desktop publishing morphed into web publishing… Once I picked up HTML I was a lost cause. I wanted to get better and the thought of making money while doing something that so appealed to me… I was hooked.

2.) What's the most outrageous thing you ever did ON your site?

That I’ve shared with the general public? Not all that much… The advantage to running the site for my clan is I can play a multitude of practical jokes… but I usually do those on a personal level. My most recent attempt at humor would be lost on most people. I could try to explain it but you’d probably just shake your head, cluck your tongue, and say to yourself, "Poor, demented Trillian…" I’ll have you know I can whip out a prank site in an hour or less. ;c)

3.) People you admire in the industry. (Please limit your answer to 2 people and EXCLUDE me, that’s a given.)

Who are you again? :cP

I find that I can’t admire someone unless I know them and there are few people in the industry I truly can say I know. As far as people who have had an influence on my career… l00mer from Area-S (long since dead but never forgotten… the site not the person… sheesh) was always a faithful friend and trusted critic. He helped me accept that I have talent and wasn’t afraid to tell me when an idea I had wasn’t hot… I’ve lost track of him recently but he’ll always be an important part of my webmistressing past… ;c)

4.) What's the most annoying thing to deal with as a WebMistress? ( hehee, I like the sound of that . . . )

It falls between two categories… The first being the emails that say, "I just spent the last week going through your site and I managed to find a page buried in the rubble of old news that has a link that doesn’t work. What kind of site are you running here?!" Fortunately, I have a life… even if that means that occasionally things will be out of date. I do try to fix things when they are brought up but it is annoying to me that people will go out of their way to find those things.

The second category is the type of flaming I get. I think anyone who has a website with their email address proudly displayed is going to get a few nasty emails. Having my primary site be for a female gaming clan tends to flavor those nasty emails with sexist comments and other interesting tidbits. Some of the emails we’ve shared include a fellow who explained that all female gamers are lesbians… he went into excruciating detail as to why this is so… and there are always emails that include, "SUCK MY ****" and sentiments of that nature. Most of them I can just laugh at and send to the trash. They just get annoying at times.

5.) Does your husband still nag you to "Get off that damn computer before I break it" now that your a famous WebMistress.

Famous… I like that. Where are my lovely baubles, damn it! As far as computer time goes, I managed to hook myself up with a computer junky. Between gaming, chatting, and working, he hardly notices the time I spend in front of my machine. Probably the biggest annoyance to him is that I ask him to check over my work before I post anything major. He has a critical eye that I love to take advantage of. :c) Besides, it makes up for his incessant Quaking.

6.) Tips you can give WebMistress' in training . . ..

Just because it’s the hottest thing doesn’t mean you should use it. I have so many people that come to me asking how to implement this latest trick or that latest format. While I think a little vigor to a site is a good thing, remember that you are developing for a broad spectrum of people. This means that not everyone is going to have a sweet machine with a fast processor, tons of ram, and the latest browser. Try to develop for the lowest common denominator… or at least close to it.

Oh… and don’t develop in high resolutions (1024x768, etc) and expect it to look good. I don’t worry about 640x480 any more but you should aim to look good in 800x600 at least.

7.) Drink of Choice

When I’m good? Bottled water or Jamba Juice… fruity and tart smoothies revitalize me.

When I’m bad or lazy? Whatever’s in the fridge… preferably Dr. Pepper or a nice root beer.

8.) Tunes of Choice

Metal… groups like Nightwish (http://www.nightwish.com), Conception, Symphony X, and Kamelot… mostly imports that my husband has stumbled upon and I’ve embraced as my own.

9.) Stud of Choice ( ahem, this should be obvious. . . . . )

I prefer the well-spoken geek over any "hot looking" stud. Of course, if the well-spoken geek is also a marvelous hunk of a man… Bonus! That’s probably why I married my husband. Intelligent, attractive, knows the importance of an upgrade… and verbal sparring is always a pleasure with him.

10.) Where did you get the idea for your Nickname, most of us can't count the amount of zero's in a million, let alone a Trillian. . . you must be expensive . . . . .

I’m only expensive when it comes to my computer… at least that’s how I like to lure unsuspecting men into my web…

I’ve been through many names since I first debuted on the web. Pixie > Pix > Crea > Crya (the closest I could come to Crea on AOL… yes… AOL… shaddap!). When it came time to break free from AOL and to play games online, I picked up a favorite book, Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. It was either Trillian or Eccentrica Gallumbits. Seeing as Eccentrica is a triple-breasted whore, I felt Trillian would be a wise choice. I haven’t been disappointed with my choice. Although I do owe Graeme Devine a deathmatch since I hear he uses my name when he plays.

and the bonus question:

If you could do or say anything to the in the Web Community and NOT be held accountable for it, it would be . . .

I’d go through the web and put a big black mark on websites that offend the senses. I know I’m not the best out there but I shudder each time I am asked to look at someone’s latest design… especially when it sucks. I’d love to be able to just say to someone, "You have no business designing web pages… Run along, peasant." But that doesn’t go over very well so I usually say something kind and helpful. **sigh** To be a vicious WebBitch just once…

BTW… the current sites I am working on include QGirlZ (http://www.qgirlz.com), Q3A Female Model - Skins - Sounds Contest (http://www.qgirlz.com/q3afem), Artemis Software (http://www.artemissoftware.com) and a variety of non-gaming related sites some of which are listed (although this site is a bit out of date… :cx) http://www.ookla.com.

Hehehe, a million Thanx go out to Trillian. . . . I am happy to have you here on my humble site ( in MORE ways than ONE. . . we'll just let everyone talk :^). If you have not DONE YOURSELF the favor of visiting Qgirlz, you need to hit that funky little button right here and GO. . . .
