"Ask Asia 2" Answers

We have the answers ( and winners ) of the ever-so-popular "Ask Asia 2". I had phenomenal response to this edition of "Ask Asia", in part because this was actually due out awhile back. . . but with Asia moving into the new house and all, it was put on the back burner.

Funny part about this competition was the people that entered the winning questions wished to remain anonymous. Heh, I can just imagine the difference between telling the wife "Hey look honey, I won a GeForce2 MX at Hypothermia" and "Hey look honey, Hypothermia picked my questions for the 'Ask Asia' contest ! ! !". . hehe...

A big huge thanks goes out to the sponsors of these "Ask Asia" contests. . . It had been since the end of September that I had sent out the GeForce2 MX and OCZ Memory to our first winner, and the Gaming Package from KickAss Gear, I damn near forgot who sent what and when!!! Wow. . . that's bad.

1.) Thanks to Hypothermia I have heard you recently have moved and taken up a REAL 9-5 Computer Job. How do you like the new pad?? What does the new job consist of??

It's pretty cool - working with an office full of people definitely takes some getting used to after so many years being the lone dictator running my website, but it's fun. My co-workers are cool people, they respect my computer skills, and they don't treat me like a bimbo or a celebrity pornstar, which is all I could ask for. Originally I was hired to work as a DVD author, designing and compiling DVD bonus materials and menus for various adult titles, and I'm still doing that, but my job title is in limbo as I'm branching out into whatever other directions they'll let me go into. Today alone I made up business cards for the DVD Geeks department... I did webmaster consulting for a co-worker designing his first e-commerce site... I worked on an AfterEffects montage for an upcoming DVD title... I took on Network Admin duties while our guy is attending a convention in Vegas... I don't really have any set job title, and that's the way I like it, because doing the same thing day in and day out would drive me absolutely insane! The whole reason I agreed to this contract-girl/9-5 office deal was because I wanted to get my mitts on all the expensive computer toys at Simon Wolf Productions. I wanted to learn how to use the Media100 editing bay, and the Spruce DVD authoring system, and all the other cool stuff that's pretty much cost-prohibitive for a solo computer geek like me to have at home. Primarily because I love computers and I'm a knowledge junky, but also because I'm busy assembling an arsenal of job skills that I can do with my clothes on, since I don't plan to do any more adult stuff after I hit 30... hehehe...

A cool ass GeForce2 MX and 128mb of OCZ PC133 from OCZ Store went out to our first winner who wishes to **ahem** remain anonymous in Houston, Tx. Thanks a million to OCZ for the prizes.

2.) Women are taking on larger and larger roles in video-games nowadays, and more often than not, they are not just the Lead Characters in games now ( Heavy Metal, Alice, No One Lives Forever ) they are actually making them, producing them. etc. Where do you envision women in the Gaming World in the near future?? And if there WAS an Asia Carrera based game ( you in the Lead role ) what would it be named. Thank you.

I envision a world where no one pays any attention to whether 'the geek behind the box' is male OR female! It would be cool if women were so well represented in gaming and the computer industry as a whole, that it wasn't even a point of interest anymore. Of course, we're a long, long way from that point - I was reminded of that fact yesterday at work, when I told our office Network Admin to "scoot over" so I could fix a network config problem he was troubleshooting. He looked at me and said 'I can't believe I'm actually moving over... so a GIRL can try to fix this!" We both laughed, 'cause I knew he was just busting my balls (for lack of a better phrase HAHAHA!), but after I finished tweaking the settings for him, I thought about that comment, and I had to admit - I have never met a girl I would trust anywhere NEAR my computers! It's still very much a guy's world out there, but hopefully I can help lure more females over to the Geek Side... hey come on, if some pornstar bimbo like Asia Carrera can run her own website, assemble her own computers from the ground up, and emerge victorious from massive UT fragfests, then anyone can do it... right? :)

And if there was an Asia Carrera based game, I haven't a clue what they would name it, but I think that would make for another amusing contest on Hypothermia - come up with the cleverest spoof title (or even original title) for a first-person shooter game starring Asia Carrera... Hehehe... I don't think the submissions would be proper fare for a family-friendly site like this one tho... ;)

Another big shout out to Dr. John from Kick Ass Gear, who sent me out a ton of cool gaming goodies for prizes, including a Logitech Force Feedback Joystick, a Gravis Xterminator GamePad. . . to send out to our second **cough** wanting to remain anonymous winner from St. Paul, Minn.

As always, thanks to Asia for doing this stuff for me. . . all our prize winners got cooling goodies from ColdCPU and a RatPadz from [H]ard|OCP.

There will be more "Ask Asia". . . . with as much as you guys like sending in these question, she likes answering them, and I like getting you free stuff for coming up with good questions.

I think Asia hit a GOOD CONTEST idea with the comment " but I think that would make for another amusing contest on Hypothermia - come up with the cleverest spoof title (or even original title) for a first-person shooter game starring Asia Carrera..." so maybe my next contest will be just that. . . whodathunkit???
