Today's Random Thought

Just because we can't help everyone....doesn't mean we shouldn't help someone. Doing what you can, when you can is what it's all about.   -Me

We have a little something for you guys that you might find interesting. With all the supposed "Gaming Consoles" being announced, we saw this and thought we would share. Take a look at the motherboard layout you can see an AthlonXP 2200+, 256MB SODIMM, Creative Labs Audigy and an unknown ATi GPU. From the looks of it, this unit will apparently use a 2.5" 60GB Hard Drive, onboard 10/100 NIC. Overall size is about half that of the XBOX and slightly larger than a GameCube. The unit is supposed to have keyboard & mouse support, USB support as well as support for serial devices ( as you can see from the back panel ). The two long slots in the back are for PCMCIA style modem and wireless support. The long heatpipe assembly is for CPU cooling with a larger heatsink attached to the opposing end that will rest in the larger end of the console.

Microsoft can be credited for BLURRING the line between PC and consoles with its XBOX console, as you can see, anyone can spend the afternoon putting together a small form factor PC and calling it a gaming console.

We  looked at a full fledged PC in early 2001 that was half the size of a GameCube with 3x the specs. Then we upgraded it later with off the shelf PC parts to make an ass kicker of a a mini-system capable of giving any desktop a run for its money...remember that?

Is this thing a reality? Another hoax? Or simply someone having a little fun with some off the shelf parts trying to lay claim to the throne of the console industry? Regardless, the pictures are fun to look at and it certainly does make you think about the possibilities! We'll let you decide.
