UDATE 10/19/22: For the fist time in 20 years my hardware charity drive looks like it's going to be a bust. I blame the economy and high prices for the lack of support this year.
Every year we collect used / older computer parts from our readers in an attempt to build as many computers as we possibly can to be donated to those in need.
Many of you have older hardware lying around (CPU, RAM, video cards, etc.), maybe left over hardware from your last upgrade, or stuff just laying around collecting dust, that you would like to donate to a worthy cause. Our readers send it to us, and we build and distribute the systems. Got something you want to donate? Let me know here. There are also lots of great companies out there that also donate computer hardware to our charity project as well simply because it is a great way to give back to the community.
This will be my 19th year doing this. In the past 8 years alone, we've built and donated more than 160 computers for families in need.
2014 we built nineteen computers / laptops
2015 we built sixteen computers
2016 we built twenty computers / tablets
2017 we built twenty four computers / laptops
2018 we built eighteen computers
2019 we built twenty three computers
2020 we built twenty one computers / laptops
2021 we built twenty two computers
These computers will be used for every day tasks, such as homework for kids, employment searches for adults, filling out online forms, watching instructional videos, job training and, with any luck, a little entertainment as well.
